Who We Are

Our 2023 season will be the 43rd season of play for SHSGS. Through the many years of play and the hundreds of fine athletes that have worn our uniform we have evolved. Administration, coaches and players have worked hard to create a culture and a program that emanates the goals and values we discuss below:

Our Goal

We want to always be a safe, positive and competitive program, that is cultivated in a way that our student athletes achieve and sustain individual excellence and become responsible citizens in a larger world. We want our program to allow for individual success within the larger group because we believe that is an important accomplishment for our student athletes. We work towards and expect all participants to be fully engaged in creating a student centered and fair competition achieved through healthy soccer specific training.

Our ongoing vision is to be a consistently elite program that stands with the strongest girls' high school soccer programs in Connecticut. We want our opponents to believe we are the most challenging game on their schedule every season. Our program should be widely viewed as a serious contender for our division championship, conference championship and the Class LL championship.

Our Values

Our vision for this season is to assemble and create an elite team, on and off the field, that consistently embraces and embodies several key values we believe essential to our success. These values are our foundation and drive how our program operates evert day.

What Players Should Expect

  • To consistently demonstrate to coaches excellent technique in training and skill in competition.
  • To study, learn and master our game model (strategy, style of play and tactics)
  • To condition themselves to play for 100+ minutes, regardless of what minutes they do play
  • To be held to strong nutritional demands and to understand their impact on performance
  • To always hold and never release their part of the team “rope”
  • To be treated fairly by teammates and coaches
  • To be told the truth by the coaches in regard to their role, playing level and playing time
